Hmmm... well... a very interesting and informative rant on laws dealing
with solicitation. I have to say, admittedly, that I wish I lived in
Haddonfield. I do not wish to be bothered with solicitors. I do,
however, have to say that my problem is less with door to dor salesmen
than it is with phone solicitors, both it bugs me nonetheless.
You see, I have to sleep during the day, because I work at night. My job
pays my bills. My job makes it possible for me to be productive for
myself, and to be able to afford nice things, and certain good deals,
when I want or need them. When I can't sleep, I can't work properly.
When I can't work properly, I get canned from my good job. That happens,
and I no longer am able to be a productive member of society. See where
I'm going with that small point?
Like I said, that's just a small point, since I am really noone of
importance. Still, with all of the technology that is easily accessable(
I had a television show, complete with commercials, and paid not one
cent), and with all the different multimedia ways of sale
nowadays(television, magazine, internet, billboard), why do I get at
least tree calls a week, and a more than occasional door to door
salesman, and always when I need to sleep?
Sorry, your pitch is lost on me. You may want to try selling it to a
more sympathetic ear, mine is too tired. I don't mean to sound
insulting. You must understand, however, that I reserve the right to
deal in buisness on MY schedule, not when you happen to be in my area of
town. Make a cheap web site. Place an ad in the paper. Hell, for a small
amount, I could produce a decent tv commercial to attract sales. I hear
flyers do wonders for buisness. Welcome to the modern capitalist
society. We've gotten a little more high- tech. It really works.
Oh, and by the by, the solicitation law is more than likely there
because of the complaints of the public, or at least the voting public.
If a people want to be ruled with an iron fist, and they cry for it, and
then complain after they get it, I say tough cookies. Feel free to
investigate, and get back to me on it, though. I'd be interested as to
where a silly law like that came from...

Move to South Africa, a 3rd world country wanting to be a 1st world country....you can do anything here and get a way with it...you'll make plenty of dosh and as in your case with you in a wheel chair - well you'll be easy pickings cus you can't fight back.
Imagine this...in order to get a wheelchair parking sticker on your car windscreen, you personally have to WALK, up three flights of stairs to sign and prove your in a wheelchair permanently and then WALK up 1 flight and then a further 2 flights down again and then walk down to the bottom floor where you started (There's no lifts). If you can do all that then you deserve the bluddy sticker....and thank god for the miracle too.
It can only happen is South Africa !!
im in the advertising business myself and i know and agree with you - people try to stop you with atitude and loose it on the slopes.
As far as your wheelchair is concerned you might have to imploy extras to carry you about - this country is now doing something about that so solicitation is rather hard .for you that is but then have you ever lived in a prison so big it's cage walls go from coast to coast....everyone lives behind bars everywehere. so much for free admittance. Solicitation here is a dirty word...something like whoring or prositution......
Um... the rant was written by a friend of mine, not me.

I am involved in a similar type of business, the exception is we solicit business to business. I looked up the Haddonfield Code online and found that the fee is only $30 for the registration and $10 for the investigation of the applicant. Two passport sized photos are required but the ordinance makes no mention of "a urine test, a blood test, a genetic sample, DNA coding(at solicitors expense), and(to top it off) $300 a day". Who ever gave you this information was seriously yanking you chain! If you wish to check it out for yourself, the website is: www.haddonfieldnj.org. Click on Borough Code of Ordinances. This will take you to a code library link. The code is in Part II, Chapter 162, Article 1. It outlines the entire Peddlers and Solicitors ordinance. It is a fairly simple process to go through and by law they have 5 days to investigate the applicant and give approval or denial. If you have any problems reply to this and I will look into this further.
I look this stuff up every day and an corresponde with many city officials involving this matter.
You do realize that a friend wrote that in the spring of 1997, right?
